Rearranging your Instagram grid is no longer wishful thinking. Instagram head Adam Mosseri teased the feature about a year ago, and as of June 8 it is finally rolling out worldwide. You can now drag your posts into any order, regardless of when you first shared them.
Getting started is simple. Open your profile, long-press any post, and pick “Reorder grid” from the menu that appears. A new window then lets you drag posts around until your Instagram grid looks exactly how you want.
Your pinned posts stay safe. Anything pinned to the top of your grid stays anchored in place and shows up blacked out in the reorder view, so your key highlights do not move by accident.
There is one thing to keep in mind. Reordering changes how your profile looks to visitors, but it does not change the original post dates or where those posts appear in the main feed. It is purely a profile-presentation tool.
Why the Instagram grid update matters
This has sat near the top of Instagram wish lists for years. Creators have long wanted to treat their profile as a curated portfolio instead of a strict timeline. For plenty of accounts, a clean grid is part of the brand. Photographers, small businesses and theme-page accounts stand to gain the most. They can line up a cohesive look, push a strong post to the top spot, or rebuild an older grid without deleting and reposting anything.
Instagram admits it was slow here. “We know this is long overdue, but we wanted to take the time to get it right,” the company said. Hints of an “edit grid” option were actually spotted inside the app back in 2022.
The update fits Instagram’s recent habit of handing creators more control. It arrives soon after Instagram Plus turned profile perks into a paid subscription, and together the two moves show the app leaning harder into the creator economy.
